Close of sale for Moanvane Wind Farm

03 Dec, 2024

Statkraft has confirmed the sale of Moanvane Wind Farm to Commerz Real, in what it says is an increasing difficult environment for developing renewable energy.

Speaking on the sale, Kevin O’Donovan, MD of Statkraft Ireland said, “I am pleased to confirm the successful sale of Moanvane. The journey has not been an easy one. It has taken our team in Ireland over ten years to reach this stage on this project, highlighting the ongoing challenges of delivering onshore and offshore wind projects within a realistic timeframe.

“Despite these hurdles, Statkraft remains dedicated to continuing to make a significant impact in Ireland's energy landscape. It is only by increasing renewables on the system that we will reduce our dependence on expensive gas and minimise our exposure to price spikes. “

“Over the past decade, we have worked closely with the local community, ensuring that their feedback was integrated into the project. The development of the 6km amenity trail is a testament to this collaboration, offering a recreational space that will continue to deliver for the community for decades to come.”

Statkraft added that it will continue to provide operational management services to the wind farm after completion of the sale, maintaining a link to the project and the wider community.

The project, with its 57.6 MW capacity, will make a significant contribution to Ireland's targets of generating 80% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030 but Statkraft is concerned that continued delays mean these targets will not now be met.
